Understanding 5-Fold Offices as Functions — Not Big Titles

MAIN POINT: FOUNDATIONAL STATEMENT
This is EORR Cross Body Unity Movement.
The First Church did not use big religious titles (like many do today).
Instead, they referred to the known Ephesians 4:11 offices —
apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher — as functions, not ranks.
This (Apostolic Taveau Johnson D’Arcy) is a person functioning as an apostle — not seeking a title.
MAKING POINTS: BIBLICAL WORDS: GREEK DEFINITIONS
Office Greek Word Meaning Function-Focused?
Apostle Apostolos (ἀπόστολος) One sent out ** Yes
Prophet Prophētēs (προφήτης) One who speaks forth** Yes
Evangelist Euangelistēs (εὐαγγελιστής) Good-news bringer ** Yes
Pastor Poimēn (ποιμήν) Shepherd ** Yes (this is NOT the “etched in steel shepherding movement false” teaching, accusing false governing ministry movement)
Teacher Didaskalos (διδάσκαλος) Instructor ** Yes
NOTE PLEASE: These were callings based on grace — not earthly promotion.
(Ephesians 4:7,11 – “grace was given… He gave some…”)
SECONDLY: THE FIRST CHURCH: FUNCTIONAL, NOT TITLED
Paul’s self-description:
“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle” (Romans 1:1, KJV).
MAKING THIS POINT: Not “The Apostle Paul” as a branded title.
No church branding:
No “Apostle Peter Ministries” or “Prophet James Deliverance Center.”
Apostles, prophets, and elders in Acts were recognized by fruit and calling,
not self-promoted or platformed with media titles.
THE ABOVE: WHO’S “CHRISTIAN” MINISTRY IS IT ANYWAY?
THIRD: WHEN DID TITLES TAKE OVER?
Time Period | What Happened |
---|---|
1st Century (Acts) | Organic servant leadership; names reflected calling |
2nd–3rd Centuries | Early church growth caused hierarchy formation |
4th Century (Constantine) | Titles institutionalized: Bishop, Archbishop, Pope (TD Remarks: interesting time period: The same Time Period of the Revelation Laodicean “luke warm” (‘at ease financially well off church”) |
Post-Constantine | Titles used for control, government alignment |
KEY MAIN POINT’ The shift from function to hierarchy began as the Church became politically organized.
REPEAT: BIBLICAL WORDS: GREEK DEFINITIONS
Office | Greek Word | Meaning | Function-Focused? |
---|---|---|---|
Apostle | Apostolos (ἀπόστολος) | One sent out | ** Yes |
Prophet | Prophētēs (προφήτης) | One who speaks forth | ** Yes |
Evangelist | Euangelistēs (εὐαγγελιστής) | Good-news bringer | ** Yes |
Pastor | Poimēn (ποιμήν) | Shepherd (servant leader, not overseer slave master) | ** Yes |
Teacher | Didaskalos (διδάσκαλος) | Instructor | **Yes |
FOURTH: RESTORING BIBLICAL ORDER
** In EORR Cross Body Unity Movement, TAVEAU CREATIVE LEADERSHIP, all other training ministry teaching facets
We discern by calling big attention to life, pure character and the fruit, not media platform or title.
Leaders are recognized by how they serve and equip, not by self-branding.
** We follow the First Church pattern — Ephesians 4 and Acts model —
of shared, humble, and accountable ministry functions.
POINT: Conclusion
MINISTRY POINT: The First Church saw 5-fold ministry as callings, not ranks.
